Torta Power as a Freshman Earns Trinity League Scholar Athlete Award and Orange Lutheran Core Value Award

It is official. Mario Luna known across the field and online as Torta Power has made history as a freshman at Orange Lutheran High School. In his first year competing in the nation’s toughest high school football conference, the Trinity League, Mario has not only held his own on the field, he has excelled in the classroom as well.

This week, Mario was honored with two of the school’s most prestigious recognitions, proving that he represents what a true student athlete should be.

Trinity League Scholar Athlete Award

Mario received the Trinity League Scholar Athlete Award, an achievement reserved for athletes who demonstrate outstanding excellence in both academics and athletics.

This recognition marks Mario as one of the few freshmen balancing varsity level football with strong academic performance. That is incredibly rare in the Trinity League where demands are intense and expectations are high.

This award is proof of Mario’s discipline, work ethic, and the commitment he brings to every aspect of his life. Whether studying late at night or grinding on the field, Mario shows that greatness comes from doing both.

Orange Lutheran Core Value Award LOVE

Mario was also selected for the Orange Lutheran Core Value Award for LOVE, presented by:

Head Coach Rod Sherman
Athletic Director Karen Kepiki
Principal Dr. Jack Preus

This award recognizes a student athlete who demonstrates compassion, humility, teamwork, service, and a genuine heart for the people around them. This value is beautifully reflected in scripture

Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends
John 15 13

Mario has earned the respect of coaches, teachers, teammates, and the OLu community, not only for his strength as a varsity football player, but for the kindness and leadership he shows every day.

Varsity Football Recognition Freshman Year 2025

Mario was additionally honored with the Orange Lutheran High School Athletic Recognition Award, acknowledging his accomplishments as a member of the 2025 Varsity Football Team.

Competing in varsity football as a freshman is rare. Thriving in varsity football as a freshman is even rarer. Mario has shown he belongs at this level through his toughness, his work ethic, and his relentless drive to improve.

This recognition is a milestone on a journey that is only beginning.

A Freshman Raising the Bar

To earn multiple awards academic, character based, and athletic all in the same year shows the type of person Mario is becoming

Disciplined in the classroom
Respected in the school community
Feared on the field
Loved by teammates and coaches

Mario Luna continues to represent Torta Power, Orange Lutheran High School, and the entire community that supports him with pride and purpose.

This is just the beginning. The future is big. The mission continues.

Congratulations Mario. The work shows. The awards prove it. The journey moves forward.
