Football Lineman (O-Line & D-Line) Offseason Tips and Training — The Torta Power Way

The football season might be over, but for real linemen, the work never ends. The offseason isn’t a time to relax; it’s the time to rebuild, refocus, and rise. This is where champions are made and where football linemen are forged from masa.

I’m Mario Luna, better known as Torta Power, and this past year was the start of something big. It was my first varsity season at Orange Lutheran High School, playing in the Trinity League, one of the toughest football leagues in the country. As a starting varsity guard in my freshman year, I learned more in one season than I could have ever imagined.

When the season ended, I didn’t stop. That’s when the real grind began. Here’s how linemen — both offensive and defensive — can use the offseason to dominate next year.

🧱 My First Varsity Season at Orange Lutheran

Playing varsity football as a freshman was both a blessing and a challenge. Every day was a test mentally, physically, and emotionally. Competing against older, faster, and stronger athletes meant I had to stay focused and never get comfortable.

At Orange Lutheran, the standard is high. Every rep matters. Every snap is earned. I took pride in representing both Mexico and Southern California, showing that a kid known as Torta Power, coming from Ensenada and Tijuana, could hold his ground against the best.

There were tough games and learning moments, but the feeling of stepping on that varsity field as a starting guard is something I’ll never forget. The brotherhood, the energy, and the challenge built me into who I’m becoming.

Now, the mission continues. The offseason is where we fix, build, and prepare for what’s next.

💪 Offseason Mindset: The Real Grind

The offseason isn’t vacation time — it’s grind time. This is where linemen are built. This is where you earn next season’s reps before you even step on the field.

One of the biggest lessons I’ve learned is to find a good coach. Working with an O-line or D-line specialist makes a massive difference. It helped me level up my game — from hand placement to leverage to explosion off the line.

This offseason, I’ll be training at Allegiance Arch O-Line Development with Coach Ward in Huntington Beach. If you’re serious about your craft, click the link in my bio and find a coach near you. The work you put in now will show up when the lights come on next season.

🥋 Tip 1: Join Wrestling

If you’re a lineman, wrestling should be part of your offseason plan. It teaches balance, leverage, body control, and mental toughness, all essential tools in the trenches.

Wrestling makes you stronger in awkward positions, helps you control opponents, and teaches you how to finish. Those same skills translate directly to both offensive and defensive line play.

Some of the best linemen in college and the NFL have wrestling backgrounds. It’s one of the best ways to develop the discipline and body control that gives you an edge.

🏋️ Tip 2: Conditioning, Strength, and Resistance Training

Every lineman needs power, but raw strength alone isn’t enough. You need explosive strength.

Train like your position. Focus on your core, hips, and balance. Don’t just move weight — move with purpose. Push sleds, flip tires, work resistance bands, and practice functional strength that mimics real football movements.

It’s not about being the biggest in the gym — it’s about being the most powerful when the whistle blows. That’s what separates the average from the dominant.

🦶 Tip 3: Footwork and Technique

Speed and technique win every time. A slow lineman with bad footwork will always struggle against quicker defenders.

Spend your offseason working on mirror drills to improve balance and reaction, bag work to practice leverage and strike accuracy, and explosive get-offs to dominate the first second after the snap.

Perfect your stance, your first step, and your hand placement. Those are your tools in the trenches.
Remember, you can’t pancake what you can’t touch.

🍗 Tip 4: Clean Bulk Eating

If you want to build real muscle and strength, nutrition matters just as much as training.

Clean bulking means adding weight the right way — not with junk food, but with quality fuel. Focus on lean proteins like chicken, steak, eggs, and fish, complex carbs like rice, potatoes, and oats, and healthy fats like avocados, olive oil, and nuts.

Consistency is everything. Eat for your goals, not for your cravings. And just to be clear — clean bulking doesn’t mean Hot Cheetos, Takis, or McDonald’s.

Your body is your weapon. Treat it like one.

💭 The Torta Power Mindset

Being made of masa isn’t just a slogan — it’s a mindset. It means being built with grit, heart, and discipline. It means representing where you come from while chasing something bigger.

Every offseason rep, every workout, and every early morning adds up. When the next season comes, you’ll be ready — not because of luck, but because of work.

🔚 Closing Thoughts

The offseason is where linemen are built. It’s where confidence, power, and toughness are formed long before game day.

Whether you’re an O-line or D-line player, stay focused, stay consistent, and stay humble. Put in the work now so that when next season kicks off, everyone will see what Torta Power really means.

Puro Torta Power — made of masa, built different.
